Skiathos, Greece Intimate Destination Wedding, Brenton and Kate
Destination Wedding Photographer
Brenton and Kate’s modern destination wedding day and love story would make the perfect movie! The couple met online and after only a few months of dating, Kate bought a one-way ticket to Melbourne, Australia to visit Brenton. The rest is history! Brenton and Kate have been together for seven years and got engaged in Athens. An intimate and small destination wedding in Greece was the natural choice for their celebration! They both wanted a small and intimate wedding with their closest friends and family present, in a place that held meaning! Small weddings like this are one of my favorites.
Brenton and Kate reached out to me via a mutual friend to help them plan a meaningful wedding ceremony for everyone travelling in from around the world. The wedding celebration was a vacation and holiday for most of the guests, which meant a multi-day celebration, including welcome drinks the day prior to the ceremony and other special activities. I loved documenting the entire experience, including a day-after session where Brenton and Kate were able to explore more of the island alone. Neither one of them love formalities, so having time together after the official wedding was very special!
We did as much planning as we could ahead of time, but other countries often operate at a different pace. We arrived days prior to confirm wedding day details, such as the wedding ceremony location, reception venue, flowers and more. The trip was full of surprises and hurdles that required creative solutions. For example, I got an international driver’s license and rented a 4x4 vehicle to drive down dirt roads for the day-after photo session! That is just a small taste of the adventures this wedding entailed!
This day-after adventure session put my abilities to think outside the box and apply resourcefulness to the test! I’m glad I have experience with destination weddings and have travelled abroad in the past! It gave me the skills and knowledge to problem solve quickly! Destination weddings, especially in countries like Greece that are more laid back, present unique challenges.
Despite the challenges set before them, Brenton and Kate’s intimate wedding resulted in a fun and unique celebration full of special moments and beautiful photos. One of my favorite memories is their reception and toasts! You can feel the emotions in these photos!
Here is what Brenton and Kate had to say about their experience, working with me…
"Destination weddings are meant to be easier. At least that's what we thought. But trying to coordinate locations from another country and manage expectations proved to be difficult. Enter Nicole. Nicole brought calamity to the chaos that was 'planning our big day'. The research and time she invested into location scouting, curating our to-do list and checking in with us was astounding.”
“Some months and several flights later, we were Greece bound. Battling through heat and crowds on a (small) Greek island is no easy feat but Nicole organized our locations and guests with seamless ease and grace. It was really important to us that the candid moments with friends and family were captured. These memories were so precious because loved ones were meeting and connecting from all over the world, for the first time. Nicole was incredibly considerate of this aspect and of our families.”
“After the wedding, Nicole organised our adventure session, which came with its own set of challenges. This day would have been difficult simply because neither of us are exactly 'camera confident'. But Nicole was there for us emotionally when we needed encouragement and guidance.”
